Automotive Techology

Taking Coop has open doors into the career
in which I want to be in. For example, Kia has
shown interest in training me to specialize in
their make of car and becoming a specialized
tech in Kia motors. With this I am able to
open my options from being a technician to
eventually a possible trainer.

Communication Arts

Having to start looking for a "real job," is as scary as any new experience. Especially for me, someone who likes to stay in their 'comfort zone.' But through the Co-Op program I was able to get an internship which eventually turned into one of those "real jobs." Without it, I would not have had the same learning, the opportunity, and the extra push that I needed.

Early Childhood Education

Not only has Coop given me the chance to go out and experience the process of obtaining a job, but it also helped me reaffirm what it is I want to do for the rest of my life. Through Coop, I was able to gain new knowledge and insights about effectively teaching young children and being a developmentally appropriate practitioner, among other things. Thank you to the Po'i Na Nalu staff for all the things they have done for me and for all the things they continue to do for students like me. You made my community college experience one I will never forget. :)"

Elementary Education

Working with the kids reminded me and
gave me first hand experience of what I’ve
wanted to do my whole life. It also taught me
things I never really knew about children’s
learning experiences.

Fire and Environmental Emergency Response

I worked at aircraft part store and I found it
very educational. They taught me values of
working in a real job where I worked Monday
thru Friday 7am to 4pm so I was really glad that I
did it.

Social Work

Coop has helped me to network in the social work field by connecting me with people in the community who are in the helping profession. I have gained valuable and fulfilling experiences through my coop opportunity. It is with a grateful heart that I express my appreciation for the coop program through Po‘i Nā Nalu. Aloha!

Welding Technology

Taking the coop program has helped me a lot, from graduating to being employed as a full time welder. Now I am able to put all the technical skills that I have learned to good use. I enjoy working in the field and the best thing is that there's always something new to learn.

Auto Body Repair and Painting

I took the Math 50 class last summer through Po‘i Nā Nalu. Laurel Schuster was a good instructor and tutors were also provided to help along the way. I took a cooperative education class and was able to get a stipend from Po‘i Nā Nalu. Co-op helped me to gain work experience, learn new tricks, and get the work done! Po‘i Nā Nalu has also offered many cultural activities such as working in the lo‘i and cleaning up Waimea Falls through their Mālama ‘Āina days.

I recommend Po‘i Nā Nalu to all Hawaiians that go to Honolulu Community College because they can help you find out about scholarships, they can help you pass your classes, you learn about the Hawaiian culture and they are very helpful with school and personal counseling.

Automotive Technology

Po‘i Nā Nalu has helped me receive a stipend through the cooperative education program and also helped me get in touch with my Hawaiian background. It was fun to work in the lo’i at the Marimed Foundation and just to be able to participate in Mālama ‘Āina day.

I would recommend Po‘i Nā Nalu because it’s good. It makes you feel connected to the school and the Hawaiian culture.

Automotive Technology

Last summer I took a Math 50 class with Po’ina Nalu in the Native Hawaiian Center, which helped me to fulfill my math requirement. While taking the class, I received help from tutors who were very supportive and were always there to help. Today I still continue to see the tutors at Po’ina Nalu and because of their help I am also passing my other classes.

I would recommend the services of Po’ina Nalu to everyone here on campus because they provide you with the tools to succeed; they offer great tutors, a quiet place to study, and have a computer lab within their center.

I would recommend the Po‘i Nā Nalu Services to everyone because they provide good support services.

Po‘i Nā Nalu has helped me with Kamehameha schools scholarship. Through Mālama ‘Āina days I was able to get community service hours. This past summer I also took the FREE Math 50 class. The tutors were really helpful and I liked that I was able to stay behind as long as I needed for help.

Elementary Education

The cooperative education program (co-op) has helped me to experience what teachers have to go through to prepare for the school year. It was a fun experience to work with all the children.

I would recommend the services of Po’ina Nalu to everyone on campus so that students don’t struggle throughout the semester.

Diesel Mechanics

Po‘i Nā Nalu has been a big help to me. By being a participant in the program I have been given a stipend that helped me financially and helped me to focus better on my schooling.

Attending Mālama ‘Āina Days was awesome. I had fun and it felt good giving back to the community working side by side with other students. Everyone should go and check out the services at Po‘i Nā Nalu.
