What Kind of Student Are You?
- First Time In College
Welcome. As a new student who has never been to college, it is important that you understand that the college environment is very different from any other. There is new terminology, expectations, rules and opportunities.
You success at navigating this environment is so important to us that it is required you attend Passport to College before you may register for classes. Sign up for the earliest event so you can keep moving forward in the process.
- Transfer From Another UH System School
Welcome. As a transfer student from within the UH System you already have some experience under your belt.
Since it is your first time at Honolulu Community College we recommend you attend the Passport to College event to learn the resources and policies that are specific to Honolulu CC. It is also a chance to meet faculty and students before classes begin.
Change of Home Institution Form
The Change of Home Institution Form [PDF] allows us to change your official record to reflect Honolulu CC as your "home institution". Your home institution should be the campus in which you intend on receiving your degree and any financial support (i.e. financial aid, veterans benefits)
Financial Aid & Veterans Benefit Implications
If you are currently receiving Financial Aid, notify the Financial Aid Office at your current institution that you will be attending Honolulu CC for the next term. You will need to reapply for financial aid through Honolulu CC since financial aid is not transferable. If you are receiving Veterans Benefits, notify the VA Coordinator at your current campus that you will be transferring to Honolulu CC. Visit our Records Office for required forms to receive aid through Honolulu CC.
After you have registered for courses at Honolulu CC, complete the Transcript Evaluation Request Form [PDF] and submit to the Records Office for an official transcript evaluation.
- Transfer From a School Outside the UH System
Welcome. As a transfer student from outside the UH System you already have some experience under your belt.
Since it is your first time at Honolulu Community College and especially in the UH System, we recommend you attend the earliest Passport to College event to learn the resources and policies that are specific to Honolulu CC. It is also a chance to meet faculty and students before classes begin.
If you would like to transfer credits previously completed, request for an official transcript to be sent directly from your current institution, to the Records Office at Honolulu Community College. Hand carried transcripts (even though unopened) cannot be considered official.
Request for copies of course descriptions or course syllabi to be submitted with the official transcripts.
After you have registered for courses at Honolulu CC, complete the Transcript Evaluation Request Form [PDF] and submit to the Records Office for an official transcript evaluation.
- Returning Student Who Has Attended Honolulu CC In The Past
Welcome. As a returning Honolulu CC student you already have some experience under your belt.
Since you did have some time away, we recommend you attend the earliest Passport to College event to refresh your knowledge of the resources and policies at Honolulu CC. Many students who have taken time off, find it helpful to try new strategies to stay enrolled in college. It is also a chance to meet faculty and students before classes begin.
Additional Advising may be needed
For example your Placement Test may need to be retaken or your Financial Aid may be affected by your gap in enrollment.
An Academic Counselor can assist you by reviewing previous courses taken and determining remaining courses to complete program requirements. The Counselor can also advise you on whether or not you'll need to retake the COMPASS Placement Test.
