About the Writing Center

The Honolulu Community College Writing Center is open to students, staff, and faculty. It provides writing assistance for all phases of the writing process and for writing assignments for all classes. The Writing Center offers support for MyReadingLab, MyWritingLab, and MyFoundationsLab. Our tutors/consultants are primarily students, and they are trained in all aspects of collaborative writing and supplemental computer assistance software. The Writing Center regularly assesses our performance through session reports and formal observation, and welcomes any and all suggestions so that we can serve our campus even more effectively. The Writing Center is proud to participate in the C3T grant. The Writing Center seeks to aid student development as lifelong learners and critical thinkers who are proactive when using resources.

Student Learning Outcomes

The Writing Center Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are:

  1. Students from disciplines across the curriculum will demonstrate preparedness by planning for their tutorial session and arriving with relevant materials.
  2. Students will demonstrate self-reliance by identifying which phase of the writing process, which writing skills, and which portions of their writing sample on which to focus during the tutorial session.
  3. Students will demonstrate problem solving/creative thinking ability by identifying the main points of discussion raised during the tutorial session to plan next steps in the writing process.

Consulting appointments can be made in person by visiting the Writing Center in building 71D #2, by calling 808-845-9477, or online at hccmywconline.com.
