OESM 215 - Hazardous Materials Management Applications

  • Prerequisite: OESM 106

A study of the requirements and application of federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to hazardous materials, including the Right-to-Know laws, transportation regulations, underground storage tank laws, and air quality standards.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of OESM 215, the student will be able to:

  • Identify pertinent regulations related management of hazardous materials
  • Explain scope and applications of relevant hazardous material regulations
  • Design a HazCom employee training program in compliance with the Hazard Communication Standard
  • List elements of a written Hazardous Communication Program as required by the Hazard Communication Standard
  • List major requirements for the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act
  • Describe major requirements for the Hawaii Community Right-to-Know Law
  • Explain the release reporting requirements
  • Identify appropriate methods for packaging, labeling, and placarding when transporting hazardous materials
  • State the carrier requirements for hazardous material transportation
  • Define selected terms used in hazardous materials regulations
  • Apply appropriate hazardous material regulations to a given scenario
  • Discuss the underground storage tank standards
  • Identify relevant requirements associated with underground storage tank removal
  • Work as a group to prepare a written report as assigned
  • Conduct a class presentation as assigned
