OESM 208 - Techniques Of Industrial Hygiene (3)

  • Prerequisite: OESM 105

An overview of the basic principles of industrial hygiene monitoring instruments and the principles governing their selection and uses with practical applications under professional supervision. Required for OESM majors.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of OESM 208, the student will be able to:

  • Recognize the types of workplace hazards that may require industrial hygiene evaluation
  • Discuss appropriate industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring strategies
  • Explain uses and limitations of major industrial hygiene monitoring instruments
  • Identify situations where sampling and monitoring are needed to further evaluate workplace hazards
  • Select appropriate monitoring instruments and methods
  • Evaluate hazardous conditions based on monitoring results
  • Specify exposure limit regulations pertinent to specific substances
  • Obtain and present information regarding health hazards of specific substances
  • Conduct industrial hygiene surveys and monitoring
  • Prepare written industrial hygiene survey reports
