EIMT 32 - Electrical Installation I

  • Prerequisite: ENG 19 and/or ENG 21, OR "C" or higher in ESL 13 & 14, OR Placement in ENG 22/60 or ESL 23; MATH 9, OR Placement in MATH 24/50/53
  • Co-requisite: EIMT 30

This course is designed to provide the basic and advanced knowledge in residential wiring techniques. Laboratory exercises are designed to give students practical experience in diff erent wiring techniques.

18 hrs. lab. per week

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of EIMT 32, the student will be able to:

  • Apply the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Perform safety rules.
  • Explain the installation requirements for non-metallic sheathed cable, according to the NEC.
  • Install various types of single-pole lighting circuits.
  • Install various types of three-way lighting circuits.
  • Install various types of four-way lighting circuits.
  • Install various types of pilot light lighting circuits.
  • Install various types of receptacle circuits.
  • Install various types of lighting and receptacle combination circuits.
  • Install various types of Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter circuits.
  • Explain the NEC installation of armored cable.
  • Install various types of armored cable circuits.
  • Install range outlets.
  • Install various types of time clock circuits.
  • Install dryer outlets.
  • Install and test smoke detectors.
  • Install a door chime.
  • Install a low-voltage lighting circuit.
  • Install various types of fluorescent lighting circuits.
  • Install various types of dimmer controlled lighting circuits.
  • Install a telephone outlet.
  • Terminate a coaxial cable with female fitting.
  • Identify electrical fittings and devices.
  • Identify single-pole, three-way, four-way and double-pole single throw switches.
  • Analyze the operation of single-pole, three-way, four-way, and double-pole single throw switches.
  • Install various types of electrical devices.
  • Analyze troubleshooting tasks, using a neon voltage tester.
  • Install various types of dwelling electrical service equipment.
