ED 131 - Early Childhood Development: Theory Into Practice

  • Prerequisite or Corequisite: ENG 22/60 or ESL 23, OR Placement in ENG 100

Covers principles of human development from conception through early childhood. Focuses on the interrelation of physical, cognitive, emotional and social aspects of the individual during this period and how this information about development aff ects one's expectations and relationship to the individual child. May be taken on a CR/N basis.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of ED 131, the student will be able to:

  • Identify and describe young children's characteristics and needs in all developmental domains (physical, social, emotional & cognitive) and the multiple interacting influences that affect development
  • Use child development theory to respond appropriately to children
  • Explain key developmental theories and milestones (prenatal to 8 years) that affect development
