CARP 41 - Rough Framing And Exterior Finish

• Co-requisite: IS 106

CARP majors only. This course is designed to show students the basics of good house construction. Topics include layout and construction techniques of the various parts of a building, footings, foundations, wall and roof framings, roofings, exterior sidings, and door and window frames. City and County of Honolulu and Uniform Building Code regulations are introduced.

5 hrs. lect.; 18 hrs. lab. per week

Upon successful completion of CARP 41, the student will be able to:

• Identify framing members
• Create a material take-off list
• Layout a building
• Assemble sills and girders
• Place joists for floors
• Frame walls and partitions
• Install ceiling joists
• Calculate rafter length, cut and assemble roof
• Apply roof sheathing and coverings
