ABRP 76 - Advanced Welding Methods (2)

  • Co-requisite: ABRP 73, 74, 75, 77

ABRP majors only. Students will be introduced to the theory of advanced welding employed in welding different metal alloys.

60 hrs. total. 6 hrs. lect.; 18 hrs. lab. per week over 2.5 weeks

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of ABRP 76, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate fundamental procedures to properly set up and tune a MIG welder for use on automotive aluminum. Student will know how variables, such as wire types, wire speed, and shielding gases are different for aluminum compared to steel
  • Understand what qualifies as an acceptable bead on aluminum. Student will be able to perform a basic aluminum weld bead using a MIG welder
  • Demonstrate fundamental procedures to properly set up and tune a TIG welder for use on automotive aluminum
  • Understand what qualifies as an acceptable bead on aluminum. Student will be able to perform a basic aluminum weld bead using a TIG welder
