ABRP 65 - Mig Welding (2)

  • Prerequisite or Co-requisite: ABRP 64
  • Co-requisite: ABRP 62, 63, 66, 67

ABRP majors only. This course will emphasize the use, care and proper operation of the MIG welder. The course will allow students to learn, practice, and demonstrate their skills as they relate to welding techniques associated with auto body repair of light and heavy gauge metal.

60 hrs. total. 6 hrs. lect.; 18 hrs. lab. per week over 2.5 weeks

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of ABRP 65, the student will be able to:

  • Use the information provided to explain and demonstrate all applicable personal and shop safety steps, along with vehicle protection measures, to be followed when welding and cutting
  • Use the tools and instructions provide to properly set up a MIG welder for welding automotive sheet metal
  • Use the tools and instructions provided to run a test weld, and tune the welder for welds being made
  • Use the tools and instructions provided to clean, assemble, and complete a butt joint with backing in various welding positions and be able to visually inspect and destructive test the weld
  • Use the tools and instructions provided to complete a fillet weld lap joint and be able to visually inspect and destructively test the weld
  • Use the tools and instructions provided to complete a plug weld and be able to visually inspect and destructively test the weld
