Look who's turning 90 years old!

In February 1920, Honolulu Community College opened its doors as a Territorial Trade School to 42 students in the buildings of the Old Chinese Hospital in Palama, located on the Diamond Head end of the campus.

Scheduled Events

February 17
90th Anniversary Kick-off Celebration
9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at the site of the old Chinese Hospital, Diamond Head end of the Mall. The event will feature special presentations and Hawaiʻi's largest moon cake, 90 centimeters in diameter (one centimeter for each year).

Auto Show
8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
A showcase of cars throughout the decades 1920-2010 on the Campus Mall.

April 22
Outstanding Alumni Luau at the Dole Cannery
5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
The dinner will honor 26 alumni representing the liberal arts and various trade programs offered at the college.

Fashion Show
The annual fashion show will incorporate the 1920's anniversary theme in the opening segment.

April 29
Lama Tree Planting
A planting of the Lama trees will take place by Building Five in celebration of Hawaiʻi Arbor Day. The planting of the Lama tree is significant to the area of Kapalama which means "the lama-wood enclosure."

July 16
Ocean Hawaiʻi Exploration Day
The day will consist of various hands-on activities
geared towards students 6th grade and higher showcasing the state-of-the-art Marine Education
and Training Center (METC) located on Sand Island.

July 16
Celebration of the Hokulea: Ho‘okele Pū -
To Sail Together

The event will recognize the partnership between the college and the Polynesian Voyaging Society.It will also serve as a send off party as the Hokulea embarks on their world-wide voyage.

Kapalama Days
Hike to the top of the Kapalamaahupuaa on Sunday, November 28, 9 a.m. The History of Kapalama on Monday, November 29, 10:30-11:45 and a walking tour of the King Street Kapalama neighborhood.
