Need help with your classes? Free Tutoring by Faculty/Staff Now Available.

All students MUST contact the appropriate faculty/staff tutor to set up an appointment in advance.

Testing and Tutoring

The mission of Testing and Tutoring is to provide students with the academic support to become responsible and self-directed learners. Testing and Tutoringoffers an array of campus-wide academic support services to assist students with their coursework and related activities. Testing and Tutoring delivers testing services (UH Community College System placement testing, distance education testing, on-campus make-up testing, non-UH testing, etc.); offers non-credit courses in placement test preparation in various modes (in-person, computerized, and/or combination of in-person and online instruction); coordinates service learning activities; offers instruction in college study skills; and provides tutorial services.

Testing and Tutoring is located in Building 7, Room 313.

Students must present valid picture identification to access services.

The Testing Center

  • The Testing Room schedule is for Distance Education and Make-Up exams only.
  • No tests/exams will be started within the last hour before closing and all tests/exams will be collected at closing – NO extensions past closing time.
  • Picture ID is required.
  • No weekend hours
  • Closed on all State, Federal, and school holidays.
  • Closed on May 26th, June 11th, July 4th, and August 15th

Honolulu Community College now offers services for proctoring tests/exams for institutions outside of the University of Hawaiʻi school system for a fee. Please contact Charles Miller (844-2396) or chmiller@hawaii.edu for further information. All test/exam requests for outside of the University of Hawaiʻi school system must be made 2 weeks or more prior to date of test/exam to be taken.

Brainfuse

Brainfuse is a free online tutorial service for community college students. Students may also receive on-line tutoring in the subjects listed below:

  • Introductory Accounting

Brainfuse Resources:

Compass Brush-Up

Brush-up courses are available in math and English for students who wish to retake the COMPASS Placement Test. These are non-credit courses designed to assist students in improving their math and English skills. Upon completion of 100% of the designated curriculum students are allowed to retake the COMPASS math or English test for free. Applications are available at the Testing and Tutoring’s location in Building 7, Room 313. The cost of each course is $50. Drop-In Tutoring

Testing and Tutoring is offering drop-in tutoring for the following subjects: Automotive, Fire, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Philosophy, History, Hawaiian, Japanese, Spanish, Chinese, Physics, Chemistry, ICS and other subjects. Tutoring is available in Building 7 Room 313 during the following times:

  • Monday - Thursday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Fridays: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • Closed on all State, Federal, and school holidays.

Tutoring will be provided by Educational Specialists and qualified tutors. For inquiries on other areas of tutoring, please contact Charles Miller at chmiller@hawaii.edu or call 845-9130.
